Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
